Having a Survey done
Most insures require a survey report before covering a boat but it also a must for you safety and security (wooden boats especially) In GRP hulls a surveyor will look for OSMOSIS as well as looking at the structure itself.
Osmosis is blistering of the gel coat. When this has occured the gel coat is peeled off the bottom of the boat. Then the boat is dried out until the moisture content is below 5% and then gel coat is re-applied.
Don't be put off if the osmosis is very slight, it will not harm the boat and if placed in dry dock or storage every year or so will last a good few years before the peeling treatment is needed.
Find a mooring first
Before you buy a boat that you wish to moor in the water it is a good idea to find a mooring first as water moorings and marina space is very limited.
If you purchase a vessle on a trailer you can store it almost anywhere.
Forms
A Thames river license and insurance application form can be obtained from us at Bridge Marine along with boat mark kits to identify your boat if it is lost or stolen.
